I hate getting acne. It’s truly the worst. I wouldn’t mind acne so much if it just came and went. But not only do I have to deal with the inflammation, irritation, and pain, I also have to deal with the scars and spots it leaves behind and it always those behind. I don’t even pick them. I even got those hydrocolloid patches to cover them up just so I don’t pick but they still end up scarring and leaving behind some hyperpigmentation.
However, certain products have helped me tremendously on my journey to riding my skin of acne scars and clear skin. These products range from cleansers to sunscreens and I’ll be telling you about some of them.
Favorite Products For Acne Scars
Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser
I don’t really care much for fancy cleansers because I don’t think they do much to begin with. This is why I always stick to my Cerave Hydrating Cleanser or the other La Roche-Posay one. But I was gifted this Murad cleanser and it changed my mind for the better. This cleanser contains alpha hydroxy acid like lactic and and glycolic acid. It also has salicylic acid. What’s best about this is that it doesn’t strip the skin. Despite the exfoliating acids it contain, it’s not harsh. This cleanser helps to exfoliate the skin and you’ll find exfoliation very important if you’re looking to lighting some scars.
Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel
If you’re looking for convenience, peels are the way to go. They’re not very environment friendly but they work. And again they’re convenient especially if you’re busy. This daily peel contains 2 pads. The first pad contains 7 acids including glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, salicylic acid. It also contains chamomile to neutralize and soothe the skin. While the second pad contains retinol and green tea extract. If you ever doubt if this product works, simply take a minute or two to read reviews from other buyers.
Skinceuticals C E Ferulic
This vitamin C serum is perhaps the most expensive in the market but I will never stop throwing my money at the folks at skinceuticals because they were in their bag when they came up with this formula and then patented it. I didn’t care much for vitamin c serums until I used this. This product contains 15% Ascorbic acid, Tocopherol and Ferulic acid which both help to boost and stabilize ascorbic acid. As you already know, vitamin c is effective at brightening the skin and fighting dark spots.
Skinceuticals Discoloration Defense
I got this serum because I was always curious about tranexamic acid and this product had it. It contains 3% Tranexamic Acid, 1% Kojic Acid, 5% Niacinamide and 5%HEPES among others. You can see why this ingredients is appealing even on paper. This superstar serum improves hyperpigmentation and discoloration with a quickness. I saw results in weeks. There has been complaints about change in color with this one but if you’re remain unchanged, it actually works.
Dr Brandt 2% Retinol Complex Serum
Retinoids. I think 2% is the highest for retinol over the counter. Maybe not. I stand corrected. Well this serum contains 2% Retinol and a host of antioxidants. It also contains glycerin to hydrate. Retinol will not only help to fade discoloration, it also smooths wrinkles and fine lines. Even though this serum contains 2% Retinol, it is gentle enough for the most sensitive skin. It is also safe enough to be used around the eyes.
Purito Centella Green Level Unscented Sun
This SPF 50 Korean sunscreen has a cult following for a reason. It is the most moisturizing and gentle sunscreen I have ever used. Once upon a time, this product got into my eyes and nothing happened. It is the most gentle sunscreen ever. You would think I would love more matte sunscreens due to my oily skin but I prefer the dewy finish this product gives. With 2% niacinamide and 5 forms of centella asiatica, this sunscreen is a balm for inflamed skin. If you are looking to fade scars and discoloration and already have a routine full of acids and other strong ingredients, you will find this sunscreen to be the much needed calm in a storm of acids.
