Essential Makeup Products For Beginners

Essential makeup products for beginners

I’ve always regarded myself as a late bloomer when it comes to trends. Always super late at adapting and moving with the flow which turns to confusion when I inevitably get left behind which then leads to me throwing in the towel completely.¬† I knew nothing about makeup. I had none of the essential makeup products for beginners. It also doesn’t help if you have friends who just wake up and decide they’re going to recreate Beyonc√©’s Met Gala look from the previous year and end up doing just that. Flawlessly too. While you’re on your third attempt at drawing a winged liner and your eyes hurt because you’ve rubbed it off a couple of times.

And then you summon up the nerve to try to learn how to do your own everyday makeup but you need to get essential makeup first. Confusion. So you look into your friend’s makeup bag and the confusion intensifies. There are over 30 items and each one does a different thing and you know this because you’ve seen her use all for just one look and this is just too much where do you even start from? Speak no more sis.

For every beginner/novice, makeup can be overwhelming buy we’ve all got to start from somewhere or we end up wasting lots of money on products we don’t need yet. You don’t need to start with sharpest cut crease eye makeup or contour, the only thing to have in your Makeup kit are just the very essential base items

Moisturizer and Primer

A flawless makeup look begins with great skincare. Foundation and makeup in general just sits better on well moisturized or well primed skin. To shorten the steps, a moisturizer with spf is better. Dont forget sunscreen guys! And I have a theory that you don’t even need a primer if you moisturize well but that’s not why we’re here today. A primer or a moisturizer will make for a nice base that will keep your makeup in place for hours.

Foundation and Concealer

Foundations even out your skin tone and provides a uniform base for the rest of your Makeup. Foundations are like your second skin but better. They can come in sticks, powders and cream formulas. Concealers are little miracle workers. They are colour correctors used to neutralize discoloration and pigmentation on the skin. Have a dark mark you want to cover? Use a concealer.

Mascara and Eyeliner

A mascara is the one thing I cannot stay without. I mean, I actually can but I absolutely refuse to. Just one coat of mascara can take you from sleepy to fully awake and refreshed. They bring the rest of your look together without even doing much but it’s so noticeable if you skip it. Don’t skip it. Eyeliners are good for beginners who aren’t into falsies. A good winged liner look eliminates even the need for eyeshadow.

Brow Pencil

If you’re new to brow makeup, it is advisable to start with products that are easy to use. The arrival of universal brow pencils have taken the guesswork out of choosing the right or wrong shade of brow products. You can fill in light or heavy depending on how you want your brows to look.

Highlighter and Blush

I know we said to keep it simple but I couldn’t not include highlighter. Strategically placed highlights have the ability to give you a brighter and dewy look and nice cheekbones. For days I don’t want to wear any makeup, I still make sure I use a highlighter on well moisturized skin for the dewiest natural look. Highlighters are available in cream, liquid and powder forms. Blushes are amazing products that can make you look radiant in a matter of seconds if you use the right shade for your skin tone.

Neutral Eyeshadow Palette

A neutral eyeshadow look is necessary in every makeup bag. They are essential for building up from subtle everyday looks to the more dramatic smokey eye looks.

Lip Products

Any Lipsticks, lip balms, lip glosses of your choice can do. You can play around with lighter colours and nudes for when you want a soft makeup look and heavier reds for when you want a more glam look.

Brushes and Tools

Whether you want a soft or glam makeup look, you’re going to need brushes to apply each step properly. Whether you’re a pro or a novice certain makeup tools like foundation sponges, eyeshadow brushes are must-haves.
