Another skincare hill I’m going to die on is; The Ordinay skincare brand is not for everybody. They’re cheap, they’re simple, but they are not for everyone. The Ordinary is a skincare brand that boasts of affordable products. But just because they are affordable and accessible does not mean you should be using them all. This is why my picks for best products from The Ordinary skincare brand are not the very common ones everyone uses and raves about. They are the quiet, overlooked ones in the background and they do most of the heavy lifting. They are also suitable for every skin type.
The first products I used from the Ordinary are the Niacinamide serum and the peeling solution. Solid products with good reviews. But they weren’t for me. I decided to dig deeper into their other lesser known products and found a lot.
Favorite Products from The Ordinary Brand
The Ordinary Marine Hyaluronics
According to Deciem, “Marine Hyaluronics brings together marine-derived water reservoirs that attract and hold water like hyaluronic acid but are lighter than HA in texture and feel. The formula contains exopolysaccharides from skin-friendly marine bacteria, Hawaiian red algae, Glycoproteins from Antarctic marine sources, microfiltered blue-green algae and several health-supporting amino acids”
This product is as hydrating as their hyaluronic acid but with none of the stickiness and heaviness. It hydrates without leaving a greasy residue. I wish it came in a bigger 60ml bottle.
The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5%+HA
I think Beta Hydroxy Acids are superior to Alpha Hydroxy Acids for a number of reasons. They’re gentler and they are great for my very oily and dehydrated skin. But when it comes to AHAs, it is the second best known lactic acid that I prefer to use not glycolic acid. Lactic acid is very gentle and hydrating. This product contains 5% lactic acid. This makes it suitable for beginners and sensitive skin. Lactic acid is also especially good at tackling hyperpigmentation and mild breakout.
The Ordinary Ascorbic Acid 8%+Alpha Arbutin 2%
All I need in this life of sin is a hydrating routine plus my tube of tretinoin. Sprinkle in some arbutin and ascorbic acid and you’ve found my sweet spot. I came for the low percentage ascorbic acid and stayed for the alpha arbutin. Alpha arbutin is a cousin to hydroquine and is almost as good as HQ for hyperpigmentation with none of the side effects. The combined alpha arbutin and vitamin c in this makes it a brightening powerhouse. Also suitable for all skin types.
The Ordinary Buffet
This multi-technology peptide serum combines a comprehensive array of studied technologies to target multiple signs of aging at once. Peptides are short chains of amino acids. They are the building blocks that make up proteins. The skin’s production of peptides decreases with age. But topical application of peptides increases your body’s production of peptides for skin. Peptide molecules are also small enough to penetrate the skin and signal it to repair itself. The skin then increases its production of collagen peptides.
This serum combines lots of peptides in a base of 11 skin-friendly amino acid and multiple hyaluronic acid complexes. Other brands charge and arm and a leg for products like this which makes this even better. My skin felt plump and smooth just a few weeks into using this and I don’t think I’ll ever stop using it.
The Ordinary Resveratrol 3%+Ferulic Acid 3%
You already know antioxidants reign supreme but if you don’t I’ll make a post to tell you so look out! Antioxidants neutralize the actions of free radicals which can damage the skin if left unchecked. Antioxidants help to revitalize dull skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and also help to fade hyperpigmentation. Two of the most powerful antioxidants in skincare is contained in this formulation. Both are available at 3% which are the highest I’ve seen in any product. While this didn’t take out any of my hyperpigmentation, I found it cute for a li’l brightening effect.
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors+HA
I love when products don’t try to overstate their abilities and that is why I love this one so much. It promises to protect the outer skin by offering non-greasy hydration and that is exactly what it does. Natural Moisturizing Factors are made up of multiple amino acids, fatty acids, triglycerides, urea, phospholipids, sodium PCA, hyaluronic acid and many other compounds that are naturally present in the skin. Offers instant hydration and reinforces skin lipid barrier with constant use.
